Matt's counseling style is influenced by his diverse past. Before becoming a counselor, he worked as a seasonal employee in a variety of areas: Wilderness Ranger, Dog Mushing Guide, Organic Farm Hand, Ski Lift Operator, and Musician.  His past experience informs the use of metaphor, curiosity, and creativity in his style of contemplative psychotherapy.

Matt began his professional experience co-facilitating at-risk youth and adult domestic violence  groups for RAVEN in St. Louis, MO.  In 2012, he provided crisis intervention services to survivors at Domestic Violence Initiative in Denver, CO. From 2012 to 2015, Matt worked in a sub-acute residential facility with severe and persistent mental illness clients with Community Reach Center. In 2015, he provided services to couples, families, individuals, and groups with Noeticus Counseling Center in Denver.

Matt then moved to Santa Fe, NM, where he worked with Life Healing Center, a residential facility. At Life Healing Center he provided groups, individuals, couples, and family therapy with men.  He has provided substance, school-based, individual, children, adolescent, and family services with The Center of Mental Health in Telluride, CO, and San Miguel County for two years before providing providing private practice and contract services to Telluride High School. In the summer of 2021, Matt moved to Sewanee, Tennessee where he continues to work in private practice.

He goes at the pace of his clients.  The therapy that he embraces is collaborative and centered in respect and acceptance.  His aim is to support clients by utilizing their unique strengths as a catalyst for a meaningful outcomes. Matt's goal is to honor his client's beliefs and story, help determine what’s not working well, recognize their emotions, analyze for opportunities, and assist in integrating new possibilities that are more conducive to a life that is meaningful and healthy.
